GUNDA (GLUE BERRY) NU SHAK

GUNDA NU BHARELU SHAAK(stuffed Gunda)

Gunda an Indian berry is a fruit which is a good source of minerals, fibre, vitamins and other antioxidants providing essential nutrients. It is generally available during summer season. It was a common tree growing everywhere, however this fruit is disappearing.

It is used a pickle which can be stored for the entire year and also used to make a shaak which tastes very yummy with wheat roti and aam ras. it is one of my favorite delicacy which mummy used to make in summer. I thought of sharing this recipe as summer is about to get over. Try out atleast ones.

Ingredients:

gunda 200grams

2 tablespoon groundnut oil/cooking oil of your choice

mustard seeds 1 teaspoon

hing pinch

For stuffing:

besan (roasted gram flour)3/4 cup

chilli powder 11/2 teaspoon(if you want spciy, add more chilli powder) or add green crushed chilli

dhania powder11/2 teaspoon

turmeric powder1teaspoon

sugar 1 teaspoon

desiccated coconut 2 teaspoon

garam masala 1 teaspoon

chopped coriander 1/2 cup

salt as per taste

Method:

Wash and dry gunda.

Coat knife with salt(salt can be coated easily on knife if it is wet). by doing so removing seed from gunda will be easy.(this fruit has sticky liquid inside so removing seed can become difficult if not followed this step).

Give a small cut with a knife and remove seed. Keep all gunda aside.

Mix all the ingredients of stuffing. Add 1 teaspoonful of oil and mix well. Now stuff gunda one by one with this stuffing.

Take  pan, put oil and add mustard seeds. allow to crackle, now add hing. Put all stuffed gunda in the pan and cover for 5 minutes on medium flame. put water on the lid. (by doing so steam will turn into water through condensation).

Now add additional masala and cook for 10-15 minutes. mix well and allow to cook till some part of gunda is turned brown and bit crispy. i like bit crispy version ONLY which is mild brown in colour. once cooked well, it is no longer sticky. garnish with coriander and desiccated coconut. serve with fulka roti and aam ras. it is a must dish to try before monsoon is all set and gunda is disappeared from the market. Enjoy!!!
